Chin Han (Chinese: 黄经汉; pinyin: Huáng Jīnghàn) is Singaporean stage, film and television actor before breaking into the North American market in the 2005 independent film 3 Needles. He portrays the main character of Simon Wang in Disney+'s original series American Born Chinese.
General overview[]
Han quickly found a place in studio films, starting in Christopher Nolan’s "The Dark Knight". Chin Han starred in Warner Brothers’ "Mortal Kombat," which came off the heels of Universal's "Skyscraper" opposite Dwayne Johnson and Paramount Pictures’ "Ghost in the Shell," opposite Scarlett Johansson, Juliette Binoche and Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano. He can also be seen in the Chinese feature film "A Sweet Life" from acclaimed producer Ning Hao. Other Asian features include starring roles in the Chinese/German film "A Different Sun" and in CJ Entertainment's "Final Recipe," starring opposite Michelle Yeoh which premiered at the 2013 San Sebastián International Film Festival. In 2016, Chin Han starred in the Fox feature "Independence Day: Resurgence." His other North American credits include Roland Emmerich’s "2012," and Columbia Pictures' Gus Van Sant movie "Restless," which was the opening film for Cannes Un Certain Regard 2011 at Cannes. He played a lead in "Contagion" for Steven Soderbergh, opposite Matt Damon, Marion Cottilard, Kate Winslet, and Jude Law, and had a cameo in "Captain America: Winter’s Soldier." On television, Chin Han is best remembered as the lead villain Jia Sidao in Netflix’s "Marco Polo," and opposite Joan Chen in the original series "Serangoon Road" for HBO Asia. He has also starred in the limited IFC series "The Spoils Before Dying" for Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. Additionally, he has had recurring roles on hit television dramas, including "Last Resort," "Arrow," and "The Blacklist". Chin Han was named in CNN's 2010 list of Asia’s 25 Greatest Actors of All Time, and was nominated in March 2013 for Variety’s Asian Star of the Year Award. He is based in Los Angeles and represented by CAA and management companies Echelon Talent and The Van Johnson Company. In the Disney+ Original series "American Born Chinese," Chin Han stars as Simon Wang, Jin's father who is a hard-working, devoted father and husband who is bumping up against the "bamboo ceiling" at his job.
In February 2022, it was reported that Han along with Michelle Yeoh Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Daniel Wu, Ke Huy Quan, Jim Liu, and Sydney Taylor were cast in starring roles for the aforementioned series American Born Chinese[1].
